Display Basket

Hi Everyone ! Boy have I missed talking to you all !

I have been in a mad scramble to get some things made for the upcoming craft shows this fall . As usual I leave everything till the last couple of months to get done .

About a week ago I went to a rummage sale and found a neat picnic  basket , of course I started to paint it before I thought to take a before picture . In this picture you can see the unpainted bottom so you can get an idea what it started out looking like .

There ! That should just about do it !

I even painted the leather straps on the inside white so I could use it to display all the stuff I have been making this last week. This is what I am going to use it for .

I have been working on tea towels , coasters , and napkins with a French flavor.

They all have transfers using the CitraSolv method . I used graphics from the Graphic Fairy and Graphique .

Here’s everything packed away . Still lots of room for more .

So… What do you think ? Does it make a good display basket ?

And do you like my linens ?

Okay , time to get back to sewing and transferring .

I have also been working on some more altered silverware boxes. Turning them into jewelry and keepsake boxes . I’ll show you in a few days.

Hello Beautiful !

There is a new lady on my front porch , I have been looking for her for quite awhile. The last time I saw one they wanted $200.00 for it !

Then my neighbor called the other evening and said she saw one at a local thrift store flea market and that I was going to like the price .

The next morning I loaded both my grandsons in the car and headed down there.

Here she is !

The lady at the store told me that it works , but tends to smoke a bit . That’s okay I don’t think she will have to work another day in her life , she can retire and just sit around and be pretty.

Do you see a theme happening here ?

How much was she ?

My house portrait paid for her plus a new blouse too, I am a happy camper.

Next goal for the porch is to replace ( probably one by one ) the plastic chairs with metal motel lawn chairs. The hunt is on !

Home Town House Tour

Last week and this week I am taking care of my youngest grandson Reed , his daycare is closed for the month of July.

Here he is with the oldest grandson trying to keep cool yesterday in the kiddy pool.

However , today I had a day off, they are with the other Grandma and Grandpa for the day.

Since I had to go into town to the grocery store I decided to take some drive by photos of a few of the neat old homes there.

This is one of my favorites , It’s right next door to my Son and Daughter-in-law’s house .

Right across the street from the last one is this one, not living up to it’s full potential .

Just look at the detail that could be brought out with a little color.

This one is built with Arkansas stone , it’s big around here , and can be real pretty if done right like this one , but sometimes it can look awful . Kinda like giraffe skin .

Anyway these are just a few of the neat old homes in my home town.

I hope you enjoyed seeing them, it was fun getting out for a break , even if it was hot .

House Portraits

One of my neighbors stopped by a few weeks ago to ask me if I would do a drawing of her grandmother’s house , she had a photo taken not long before the house was torn down .

She had a lot of fond memories in this old house …

So I said I would give it a shot . I haven’t done many house portraits.

Here is the result .

I kinda like how it turned out.

It’s a little larger than I would have liked to have done , but she wanted it big enough to put at the top of the stairs .

What do you think ? Should  I do more of this kind of thing ?

Is anyone out there interested in a house portrait ?

Happy 4th of July!

Sorry I have been MIA for the last month .  Heat , back aches , company and life in general have given me a bad case of blogger’s block , I just wasn’t in the mood for much of anything . It has taken me a while but I am beginning to get my mojo back , so I hope I will be blogging a little more often .

I was able to check one thing off my bucket list last week. I have wanted to go zip lining for some time now .But thought the price was something I would have to save for . I mentioned it to some friends a few months ago. These are my friends that come to visit and park their RV in my driveway . I love it when they are here , we have a lot of fun even if we are just playing cards. Anyway, they called me and said they were coming and keep June 27th open because we were going zip lining.

This week I have been trying to get a few things done for the upcoming craft shows . I made a few dolls, and I have a bunch of boxes and drawers to paint and embellish.

So … Time to get off of here and get busy !

Trying to Keep Busy

What have I been up to for the last two weeks since I last posted ? Well , not nearly as much as I should have been up to with 3 craft shows coming up this Sept. and Oct .

It seems I’m having a hard time getting focused , I have decorated a few boxes and a little sewing machine drawer . A friend of mine brought me about a dozen wooden flatware boxes several weeks back , so there is no excuse for my laziness.

Anyway , here is a peek at the ones I have done for the shows so far.

I took several pictures of this little drawer.

Here are the boxes , now they are jewelry or keepsake boxes .

This last one was messed up on the inside so I ripped it all out and decoupaged the whole thing.

That’s it ! That’s all I have done ! Now does anyone have a good kick in the pants for me to get me more motivated ?

Sunday Evening Stroll

We had a brief rain an hour or so ago , so brief the ground didn’t even get wet . But it cooled down so I got out with my camera and walked around the house and yard .

The window box  with the impatiens at the end of the porch is doing good as long as I keep them watered . We have had very little rain for the last few weeks so I have to water at least every other day .

Two of the hanging plants on my porch have birds’ nests in them , this one is a house wren  and there is a sparrow nest in one of my ferns .

The hollyhocks are not doing well this year , they are covered in rust , I like rust on my metal , not on my hollyhocks .

The poppy seeds I scattered last fall are doing great ! Don’t you love these colors ?

I guess these hanging pots are just perfect home sights for the birds .

I am loving my hydrangeas this year .

There are shades of pink and lavender in the bush , I have never had that before. Maybe putting the mulch around it has changed the acidity of the soil .

There are only a few pretty roses left on the climbing rose , I trimmed all the dead ones off today , now it will regroup and bloom again .

A stand of poke salad and Queen Anne’s Lace at the edge of the woods . the woods behind my house is so thick with brush you can’t walk through it.

It is full of blackberry vines that are covered in berries that are beginning to dry up for lack of rain .

And wild roses that don’t seam to mind the lack of rain.

Look at all the berries on this cedar  tree…

This will make the Cardinals happy.

This is a view of my woods from the neighbors yard . His is cleared farther back than mine is . That’s okay , I don’t have to mow as much .

It’s a great place for the wild life to live , although I haven’t seen many deer lately .
